West Norfolk firms join forces to launch new blueberry gin

Two West Norfolk businesses have teamed up to launch a new gin made using locally grown blueberries.

King’s Lynn-based WhataHoot Distillery has partnered with Norfolk Blueberries to create the new Blueberry & Lemon Gin, made with blueberries grown on farms in West Norfolk.

The spirit was officially unveiled on Friday before going on sale at the distillery’s King Street shop and online at the weekend.

Jason Crown, co-founder of WhataHoot Distillery, said: “We wanted to create something that genuinely celebrated a Norfolk summer rather than simply producing another flavoured gin.

“Working with Norfolk Blueberries gave us the opportunity to create a product with a real connection to our local area and the people growing produce here.”

He added: “The blueberries give the gin a beautiful natural fruit character, while the lemon keeps it bright and refreshing. It still has the juniper backbone people expect from a good gin, but with a flavour that is approachable, vibrant and a little different.”

The launch followed the distillery’s “Secret Release” pre-order campaign, which allowed customers to buy a bottle from the first batch without knowing what the new product would be.

Mr Crown said: “We have also had great fun keeping the release a secret. The customers who preordered showed a huge amount of trust in us, and we are excited for them to finally discover what they bought.”

Norfolk Blueberries grows fruit at several locations in West Norfolk, including Fairgreen Farms in Middleton and West Acre Farms.

The new Blueberry & Lemon Gin is available from WhataHoot’s King Street distillery and online, priced at £44 for a 70cl bottle.
