A new family-run play centre has been created in the heart of King’s Lynn, with dedicated spaces designed for children from babies through to teenagers.
Roleplay, on Purfleet Street, is the vision of local owner Sam O’Callaghan and has been developed to give families somewhere children of different ages can enjoy at the same time.
The centre is split into three main play zones, with each designed around a different stage of childhood.
Younger children have access to soft play and sensory activities, while the main roleplay area features a two-level miniature town aimed primarily at children aged three to eight.
For older children, there is a separate gaming den designed with those aged nine to 15 in mind.
The ages are recommendations rather than strict restrictions, with children able to enjoy the different areas where practical, provided they are mindful of younger visitors.
Sam said, “The idea originally came from an old school friend of mine, who could see there was a real gap in the market for something like this.”
Children will be offered free fruit and bottled water during their visit, meaning families can pay for entry knowing there will also be something available for youngsters to eat and drink without adding to the cost.
The café has been designed as an important part of the venue rather than simply an addition to the play areas, with speciality coffee alongside freshly baked sausage rolls and a daily selection of fresh cakes, brownies and scones from Van Pelt.
The aim is to create somewhere parents and carers can enjoy spending time too, whether meeting friends, bringing grandchildren or accompanying children to one of the play sessions.
Accessibility has also been considered as part of the development, with the team working with the council and specialist organisations to make the venue welcoming for wheelchair users and families with children with special educational needs and disabilities.
Quieter, SEND-friendly sessions are also part of the plans.
Sessions are scheduled for 9am, 11am and 1pm from Monday to Friday, with an additional 3pm session on Saturdays. Sunday sessions are at 10am, noon and 2pm.
Afterschool sessions will also run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 5.30pm.
