Hosepipe ban likely to continue in West Norfolk through winter

A hosepipe ban will continue to affect West Norfolk throughout the winter months – and could even extend into next spring.

Anglian Water says the restrictions will remain until reservoirs, rivers and groundwater have recovered to healthier levels.

The ban was imposed after the east of England experienced its driest spring and summer since records started more than a century ago.

Anglian Water said the months ahead will be challenging despite heavy rainfall.

The ban was implemented on 11 July and means people are not allowed to use hosepipes, including for tasks like watering gardens or washing vehicles.

Grant Tufts from Anglian Water told a Norfolk County Council meeting that the July ban would not end “any time soon”.

He explained that groundwater and river levels are much lower than needed for the ban to be called off.
