Villagers seek answers over huge Longmarsh solar farm and data centre plans

Villagers are being given the chance to raise concerns about plans for a huge solar farm and data centre development in West Norfolk.

A public meeting is being held in Tilney St Lawrence on Monday (November 2) to discuss the proposed Longmarsh Green Energy scheme.

The scheme would see solar farms built across land around Tilney St Lawrence, Barton Bendish and Fincham, along with a major data centre.

The meeting follows an extraordinary meeting of Barton Bendish Parish Council on Wednesday (October 28), called to hear residents’ views about the proposals.

Tilney St Lawrence Parish Council has invited representatives from the developers, EPL Norfolk Ltd, along with local MPs Terry Jermy and James Wild and county and borough councillors, to attend Monday’s meeting.

It will take place at Tilney St Lawrence Village Hall, Magdalen Road, at 6.30pm.

The developers have said feedback from residents is already leading to changes to the proposals.

In an earlier meeting Barton Bendish Parish Council invited Longmarsh Green Energy to meeting in the parish to take part in a question-and-answer session with local residents regarding the proposed development.

The energy company told the parish council: “A number of local community members have already provided helpful feedback that will result in adjustments to the proposals.”

They added that all feedback received during the consultation would be considered before the plans were refined.

A spokesperson for Longmarsh Green Energy consultation team said: “Our website includes a page (https://longmarshgreenenergy.co.uk/design) setting out all of our design commitments.

“Our community consultation is open until 26 November. Following the consultation, all feedback will be carefully considered alongside the outputs from the environmental assessments and feedback from technical specialists.

“These include statutory authorities, Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council and Norfolk County Council to help refine our proposals as we prepare to submit a DCO application.

“We will also continue to engage with neighbouring residents on our mitigation proposals and work with stakeholders on technical issues.
