Police have stepped up patrols at King’s Lynn bus station following an increase in street drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Officers say they have seen a rise in incidents over the past couple of weeks and are continuing foot patrols as the evenings become darker.
Norfolk Police said: “We’ve seen a bit of an increase in street drinkers and anti-social behaviour there over the past couple of weeks so are doing what we can to help the community feel safe.”
The force said the area is also monitored by CCTV operated by West Norfolk borough council, but officers recognise that people also want to see a uniformed police presence.
During a patrol on Monday evening, two officers seized an e-scooter from a man at the bus station.
Police said there was a scuffle and thanked members of the public who helped officers during the man’s subsequent arrest on suspicion of assaulting two police officers and criminal damage.
Daniel Neves, 20, of Walpole Road, King’s Lynn, has since been charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker and criminal damage to a police officer’s watch and body-worn camera.
He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and has been bailed to appear at King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on November 12.
The e-scooter was seized, and police said it was the third one they had seized in King’s Lynn that week.
Officers are reminding people that privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be ridden in public places and are urging anyone who witnesses concerning behaviour to report it.
