Why would anybody go to Scunthorpe on a wet and windy Saturday in October? Well the only answer must be to play table tennis!
And that’s exactly what West Norfolk members of the Wisbech Table Tennis Association were doing in Division 2A of the British Veterans League.
Wayne Mason, Serafim Melo and Paul Rich played for Norfolk and Brett Heppenstall for Lincolnshire.
Against Warwickshire 2 Mason And Melo won their two games and Rich chipped in with one in Norfolk’s 6-4 victory.
Norfolk went on to thrash North Wales 9-1 with the men unbeaten and the only loss coming in the ladies singles.
It was a draw in the match against Lincolnshire, with Mason and Melo scoring two wins with Rich picking up one win, having lost in a close five-ender to Heppenstall in a battle of the left-handers.
