Green dashes to Duxford glory

West Norfolk Athletics Club athletes were in action across several events, delivering strong performances, despite challenging weather conditions brought by the weekend’s storms.

The annual Fen 10, organised by Fenland Running Club, proved a formidable challenge as runners faced gusts of up to 50mph, with falling trees and flying debris adding to the difficulties.

Starting near West Walton Primary School, the 10-mile road race usually offers a fast route through the Norfolk countryside. However, the blustery conditions made maintaining pace particularly difficult this year.

Younger club member Jacob Green enjoyed an outstanding performance at the Duxford Dash in Cambridgeshire, taking first place.

Held at the Imperial War Museum Duxford and organised alongside Good Running Events, the race offers competitors the opportunity to run on a flat, fast and traffic-free airfield runway.

Despite the difficult weather, Green produced an impressive display to secure first place, finishing 17 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

Away from the storm-hit UK racing scene, Neil Gayton was in Italy to compete in the historic Venice Marathon, adding another international event to his marathon achievements with a time of 3:29:54.
