£3.9m Government funding for urgent care at QEH ahead of winter

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in King’s Lynn, is receiving £3.9 million from the Government to improve urgent and emergency care ahead of winter.

Work is underway to prepare for winter pressures, including an expected increase in emergency department admissions.

South West Norfolk MP Terry Jermy said: “This £3.9 million in funding will strengthen the hospital’s ability to assess and treat minor illnesses and injuries separately from the main emergency department, preserving A&E capacity for patients with more serious conditions.”

The funding is part of a £140 million Government investment in 14 urgent care schemes across England, including new urgent treatment centres and same day emergency care services, new ambulance fleets, and emergency department upgrades.

Mr Jermy added: “Having written recently to the Health Secretary outlining my concerns regarding The QEH and the challenges facing the hospital, I am thrilled with the £3.9 million in funding for the hospital’s urgent and emergency care to help ease winter pressures.

“I was in King’s Lynn with residents campaigning for services at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital. I am deeply aware of how urgently this funding is needed, especially as winter approaches, and know the difference it will make for West Norfolk residents and staff at the QEH.”
