A former royal railway station in West Norfolk has gone on the market for £1.25m.
Wolferton Station, once used by members of the Royal Family travelling to the Sandringham Estate, has since been converted into a “unique” home.
The Grade II listed property, opposite the Sandringham Estate and close to Marsh Farm where Andrew Mountbatten Windsor now lives, is being marketed by Landles.
The listing describes the property as a “home of particularly unique character and history with a wealth of features”. It has three bedrooms and a double garage and is described as a “rare opportunity”.
The station opened in 1862 on the Lynn and Hunstanton railway and closed in 1969.
A converted signal box is also part of the sale and can be used as an annexe for visiting guests or a studio.
“The refurbishment of the railway line switch gear is of particular note. Again, the standard of work needs to be viewed to be appreciated. Overall, a rare opportunity looking for a new owner to cherish and enjoy such a home,” says the listing.
“All in all, this is the ideal spot for immersing yourself in Norfolk life.
“Both externally and internally ‘Downside’ displays its past royal patronage in the specification of materials and workmanship, particularly to the Royal Suite section.
“The walls are constructed in masonry work including sawn carrstone brickettes laid to tight bed joints showing no mortar. There are numerous carved bosses including Tudor roses and a fine Prince of Wales’s feathers.”
