Four former West Norfolk councillors have been made honorary aldermen in recognition of their years of public service.
Carol Bower, Colin Manning, Lesley Bambridge and Lord Greville Howard were given the titles at a special meeting of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council on Thursday, October 29.
Council leader Alistair Beales praised their contributions to the borough, describing them as outstanding former councillors.
Lord Howard previously served as cabinet member for special projects and helped bring the King John statue to New Conduit Street in King’s Lynn.
Lesley Bambridge, Carol Bower and Colin Manning all served as Mayor of West Norfolk, as well as holding several other council roles.
Cllr Beales said: “The role of Alderman is not something that just requires a tick in the box. It’s not something that you just qualify for and is awarded.
“It takes outstanding service over many years, and I’m delighted to present these outstanding former Councillors to be appointed as Honorary Aldermen.”
The tradition of appointing aldermen in King’s Lynn dates back more than 500 years, following a charter granted by Henry VIII in 1525.
