New chippy to open this weekend following community demand

A new fish and chip shop is opening in Sutton Bridge this weekend following demand from the community.

Run by a local family, Bridge Road Chippy will open on Saturday offering traditional fish and chips.

The business in Bridge Road is on the site of an earlier chip shop called Baxters, which closed in 2022 after 55 years following the owner’s retirement.

A spokesperson said: “We’ve put a huge amount of work into bringing the building back to life, and we can’t wait to finally get the fryers on, open the doors and welcome customers in.”

The owners said they had listened to “repeated requests for us to reopen as a fish and chip shop. Our hearts overtook our business heads, especially given the current climate for small businesses and fish and chip shops, and Bridge Road Chippy was formed.”

Head fryer and shop manager Josh Sullivan said: “This chip shop was a former village favourite and we reopened due to demand from the local community. We are confident people will enjoy what we have to offer.

“A lot of hard work has gone into setting up and we are excited to be closer to opening our doors.”
