Norfolk Police increase Halloween patrols and urge people to “be respectful”

Police will carry out increased patrols during Halloween and are urging people to “stay safe and be respectful of those who would rather not take part”.

Norfolk Police will have more officers on patrol on 31 October and are working with businesses to make sure everybody stays safe and enjoys the evening.

Norfolk Police are telling people to: “Make Halloween memorable for all the right reasons”.

Inspector Toby Gosden said: “While the evening can be fun for many, some can be left feeling distressed and intimidated by large groups of uninvited guests at their doorstep.”

Insp Gosden added: “We want to make sure everyone has a good Halloween and would ask anyone going trick-or-treating to be mindful of others who may not want to get involved.

“Damaging property or deliberately causing distress isn’t part of the fun, and we’d encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences anti-social behaviour to report it to us.”

Police advice…

Keep it friendly: Don’t damage property, throw objects at homes or vehicles, or do anything that could intimidate others. Respect the signs: If a household has asked not to be disturbed, please leave them in peace.

Be seen: Wear something bright or reflective and carry a torch when trick-or-treating after dark.

Take care on the roads: Use pavements and safe crossing points and make sure costumes and masks don’t restrict vision. Keep children safe: Younger children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Anyone experiencing anti-social behaviour on Halloween or any other day of the year can report it to police online or by calling 101. In an emergency always call 999.
