New signing Terry Bondo came off the bench to earn instant hero status for King’s Lynn Town with a last-gasp winner this afternoon.
A match of few chances was decided in the 87th-minute when the new loan arrival from Blackpool converted at the near post.
It came after Lynn had missed a penalty when home goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt saved well from Michael Clunan.
It was all square at the break in Manchester, where chances had been at a premium.
The hosts came close after five minutes when good play down the right provided Danny Greenfield with space to drill a low ball across the six-yard box but no home player was able to apply the finishing touch.
Soon after, Ross Crane marked his return from suspension when he tried to find Jack Goodman with a cross but the ball was blocked by a defender
Goodman worked a good position but shot wide and an effort from Jayden Davis also flashed the wrong side of the post as the Linnets pushed for the opener.
At the other end, Radcliffe’s appeals for a free-kick when Aaron Chapman appeared to handle the ball outside his area under pressure from Rio Clegg were turned down.
Davis’ shot from Crane’s cross was deflected away from goal before Chapman dived to palm away a shot from Greenfield.
Lynn came close to breaking the deadlock in the last minute when Rhys Doherty beat the home goalkeeper but his shot whistled past the post, with Reece Hall-Johnson then sending a swerving effort narrowly off-target in stoppage time.
Five minutes after the break Jack Lambert ran through but was taken out by goalkeeper Hewelt. However, the flag was already up for offside and appeals for a penalty were fruitless.
After 65 minutes the Linnets did get a spot kick but Hewelt guessed right to make a save from Lynn captain Clunan after a lengthy delay before the kick could be taken.
Hall-Johnson was the Lynn hero after 73 minutes when he headed a goal-bound effort off the line with Greenfield and substitute Michael Afuye trying their luck.
New signing Bondo replaced Goodman in the away attack and with three minutes to go he was the star of the show with the winner as the Linnets held out through five minutes of stoppage time to get their second win of the week.
