King’s Lynn Stars will have to wait a while longer to complete their season.
Tonight’s scheduled Rowe Motor Oil Premiership match at Northampton was called off 10 minutes after the due start time because of concerns about the fitness of the track.
Significant work took place in the hour leading up to the start time with the track being bladed due to issues following a three-day car meeting at the weekend and a junior speedway meeting earlier in the day.
Stars and Foxes riders remained unhappy with the surface, because of a dip/groove on the first bend and, after consultation between the team captains, managers and the referee, the meeting was called off.
A Northampton spokesman said: “Unfortunately, we have had to make the incredibly difficult decision to postpone tonight’s meeting due to track conditions. From the bottom of our hearts, we are sincerely sorry to everyone who has joined us. We have tried everything possible to rectify the situation and get the meeting on.
A re-staging date for the Stars’ final meeting of the season will be announced.
