King’s Lynn Heritage Open Day volunteers thanked at special tea party

The volunteers and supporters who helped make this year’s King’s Lynn Heritage Open Day a success were thanked at a special tea party held at the Town Hall on Sunday, 1 November.

Organised by King’s Lynn Civic Society, the annual gathering brought together those involved in the popular September event for an afternoon of tea, refreshments and conversation in recognition of their hard work and generosity.

Alison Gifford, Chair of King’s Lynn Civic Society, welcomed guests and spoke about the important role volunteers play in the town.

“King’s Lynn volunteers make the town work, not by doing the essential things like bins and parking but something else – they give the town its heart and soul.”

She explained that Heritage Open Day is one of the highlights of the town’s calendar, and reflects the efforts of people who dedicate their time to looking after King’s Lynn’s historic buildings and history.

This year’s Heritage Open Day, held on 13 September, saw buildings, churches and other historic locations open their doors to visitors, with guided walks, exhibitions and entertainment taking place across the town.

Alison paid particular tribute to the volunteer stewards who helped the day run smoothly and to those who welcomed the public into their homes, churches, offices, tunnels and towers.

Thanks were also extended to the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk for its support, the event’s sponsors and the many individuals and organisations who contributed to the programme.

She gave special recognition to Anna Gunn, Kim Leonard, Laura Gunn and Rick Morrish, whose work behind the scenes was central to organising the event.

Sunday’s tea party was an opportunity for everyone involved to come together, reflect on another successful Heritage Open Day and celebrate the community spirit that makes it possible.

Alison concluded her speech with a message of confidence in the town’s volunteering community, saying: “We know we can rely on our army of volunteers to keep calm and very much carry on.”

The next King’s Lynn Heritage Open Day will take place on Sunday, 12 September 2027.
