West Norfolk Council has given the green light to plans to transform a former discount store into a new 24-hour gym in Downham Market.
Apex Gym Group will open a new “fitness experience” in the former Original Factory Shop premises in Bridge Road, after the discount business closed in March.
Building work is underway and the fitness complex is due to open in January.
A planning statement said the gym would employ five people and have a maximum capacity for 20 people – with 60 pieces of fitness kit installed.
The Original Factory Shop, which had 137 branches across the UK, including 10 in Norfolk, went into administration in January.
Apex Gym has announced on social media that it will be opening the gym early next year, offering a space to “help you train smarter, live stronger and reach your full potential”.
It said the new gym would offer strength and functional training, adding: “Every room, detail and piece of equipment has been carefully considered to create something Downham Market has never experienced before.”
