EXCLUSIVE: The West Norfolk home of the grandmother of Diana, Princess of Wales, is on the market for 1.95 million – with the price dropping from the asking price of £2.25 million.
Lady Fermoy’s former home, Uphall, is a Grade II listed Georgian mansion in Hillington, near the Sandringham Estate.
It has 11 bedrooms, a grand reception hall, formal rooms including a drawing room and a Victorian swimming pool in the gardens.
The property was originally for sale for £2.25 million in February. The asking price was reduced to £1.95 million pounds in July.
The upmarket mansion will need a wealthy buyer – it is way above the budget of most people looking to move to the area, with the average house price for King’s Lynn and West Norfolk now £266,000, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Ruth, Lady Fermoy, was lady-in-waiting to the late Queen Mother for many years and Queen Elizabeth was a close friend.
Property agent Ben Rivett, head of residential sales at Savills in Norfolk, said: “The history of Uphall is compelling. The house was previously owned by Lady Fermoy, Lady in Waiting, grandmother to the late Princess Diana, and a great friend of the Queen Mother, who used the property as her Norfolk base whilst Sandringham House was being renovated in the early 1970s.
“Dating back to the 18th century, Uphall has continued to evolve, with the current custodians having remodelled the north end of the house, while the core of the property, the architectural merit and detail has retained a wonderful originality.”
Offering refined living on a manageable scale with plenty of charm, it is also a house that befits modern day living with open plan family rooms and practical points such as a new and highly efficient heating system.”
